Summer Camp FAQ

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.

Lodging / Host Homes

What’s the Lodging like this year at camp?
This year, we want to continue to offer the opportunity for students to connect with each other and their leader long after the service ends. Since we are not going to a retreat center with cabins and bunk beds, we’ve asked some of our background-checked volunteers to open up their homes and allow groups of students (accompanied by an adult leader) to stay in spare bedrooms, couches, and floors, in a slumber-party styled lodging.

Do I (Does my student) have to stay in a host home?
No, not at all. But we’d encourage students to have the full experience if possible. We think that the extra time with each other helps to build relationships and to process what God is doing/saying during the weekend.

Transportation

When do I need to pick-up & drop-off?
If you’ve signed up for the camp package that includes the host homes, then you (or your student) will need to be dropped off at the church between 10am and 11am on Thursday, July 19th.  You’ll need to be picked up at 10pm on Saturday, July 21st.

If you did not sign-up for the host homes and are planning to stay each night at your own house then you’ll need to be dropped off at and picked up from the church each day:

Thursday Drop-Off: 10am
Thursday Pick-Up: 11pm
Friday Drop-Off: 8:30am
Friday Pick-Up: 11pm
Saturday Drop-Off: 8:30am
Saturday Pick-Up: 10pm

Meals / Food

What’s the meal plan?
Those that choose to purchase the meal plan will be given 8 meals during the course of camp. Food includes Chick-fil-a, Chipotle, BBQ, Pizza, and other delicious meals.

What if I don’t buy the meal plan?
That’s not a problem. You can eat breakfast before you come each morning. For lunch we recommend you brown-bag and bring something to eat. For dinner there will be a long enough break in the schedule that you could zip home and eat a quick meal with your family; optionally you could also pack a dinner as well.

Can I store my lunch/dinner in the fridge?
We can’t guarantee that we’ll have an enough fridge space to offer it to students for their sack-lunches. But we’ll have a cooler they can store their lunch-boxes in.

Can my student go off-site to buy lunch/dinner?
We would ask that they do not leave without a parent. Ultimately, your student can do whatever you give them permission to do. Please understand however, we are not able to chaperone students that leave campus without our leaders. And since our leaders are needed onsite we would ask that students stay with our group while their parents have entrusted them to us.

When is the last day to buy a meal plan?
Since we have to buy and prep lots of meals we would ask that you buy your meal plan by Friday, July 13th.

Packing

What should I pack if I’m staying in the host home?

  • Bible, Notebook, & Pen
  • Water Bottle
  • Sleeping Bag & Pillow
  • Toiletries (deodorant, tooth brush/paste, etc.)
  • Pajamas
  • Clothes for Sessions (normal clothes you’d wear to youth group)
  • Clothes for Activities (swim suit, socks, closed toe shoes, etc.)
  • Swim Suit & Pool Towel
  • Spending Money for Cafe Snacks & Apparel (optional)

What should I pack if I’m not in the host home?

  • Bible, Notebook, & Pen
  • Water Bottle
  • Clothes for Activities (swim suit, socks, closed-toe shoes, etc.)
  • Swim Suit & Pool Towel
  • Deodorant
  • Spending Money for Cafe Snacks & Apparel (optional)

How should I pack for the afternoon activities?
It would be good to bring a small back-pack with an extra set of clothes and some deodorant (maybe a brush or some hair product). Some of the guys will probably work up a sweat playing dodgeball, and others will want to have a fresh change of clothes after the pool. Some activities are best enjoyed with closed-toe shoes. It never hurts to be prepared.
